SQUEASE is the result of a four-month user-centred design project with teenagers with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In depth research and time spent with families, children and adults with ASD revealed that this group is sensitive to anxiety and certain high frequency noises, like alarm bells or the sound of chairs scraping on a floor.
SQUEASE is a garment that allows the wearer to apply deep pressure to their body in order to create a calming effect and reduce anxiety. It has integrated headphones that reduce the sound level of high frequency noises that cause discomfort to people with hypersensitive hearing. The SQUEASE garment is mobile and allows the wearer to self-administer deep pressure discreetly in anxious situations. With its generous hood and sleeves, noise control and pressure application features, SQUEASE allows the wearer to feel protected and make them more at ease on-the-move. It is a lifestyle product, not just a therapy aid.
