LOKIMO is an educational toy for Multiple Complex Handicapped children. The toy focuses on the development of the locomotion of the child’s arms and hands and will be used on the wheelchair table. LOKIMO is a ‘playmate’, with behaviour based on human interaction, it can be used independently from others and challenges and stimulates the child to go into action, through making sounds with its rattle, which also enables the child to localize the toy on the table.
After making sounds for a few seconds the toy will pause to give the child the opportunity to react. When the child touches the upper surface of the toy, the surface will lighten up and the toy will start wobbling. This will cause the hand of the child to be shaken and the little balls and beads in the orange cases to make sound. To get this reaction again the child should first break the contact and once more reach for LOKIMO. The child sets its own pace, when to take action and when to take a rest.
